Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) led Gwynedd Mercy University with his first double-double of the season; he hit 8-of-14 (.571) from the floor and 5-of-6 (.833) from the free throw line to pair his season-high 21 points with a season-high 10 rebounds. Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) supported with 13 points apiece. Spencer additionally recorded seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Clark also contributed two rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.
Delaware Valley University outscored Gwynedd Mercy University 16-4 (12:47) in the opening seven minutes of the contest. The deficit remained there until the later minutes of the first half, where the Griffins' woeful shooting eventually weighed them down behind a 41-24 halftime spread. In the second half, a 62.1% (18-of-29) field goal percentage helped Gwynedd Mercy University keep pace until a late string of buckets reduced the Aggie edge to 11 points on a Spencer layup; 71-60 (4:08). Unfortunately, that is as close as the Griffins would get with Delaware Valley University stalling the Gwynedd Mercy University rally for the final four minutes.
Gwynedd Mercy University resumes their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) schedule on Wednesday, January 19, when they welcome Marymount University tot he Griffin Complex for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
