Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/19/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (8-6, 0-2) stayed on step behind Marymount University (8-6, 2-1) early in tonight's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contest as the Saints scored the first two points of the affair, 2-0 (19:36), and gradually grew a double-digit lead, 30-20 (5:54), with six minutes to play in the first half. From there, Marymount University increased their prime position to as many as 17 points, 38-21 (1:16), before the halftime spread settled at 14 points, 39-25 (0:09). The Griffin grit showed in the second half as a late free throw from graduate forward Donaven Spencer (Timber Creek, N.J.) cut the deficit to five points, 61-54 (0:55), heading to the final 55 seconds. Unfortunately, that was not enough time for the Griffins to completed their comeback as the Saints hit the necessary free throws to earn a 65-56 (0:05) league win.

Senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) led the Gwynedd Mercy University comeback with his second straight double-double as he paired 13 points and 10 rebounds with a pair of steals. Graduate guard Matt O'Connor (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the Griffins' leading scorer with 14 points in excess of his four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Spencer was a major contributor as well with nine points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
