GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Gwynedd Mercy women's volleyball team dropped both of their matches Saturday afternoon with Arcadia University and Notre Dame of Maryland University.
Gwynedd Valley, PA. -- The Griffins dropped the first match of the day against Arcadia 0-3 (13-25, 14-25, 18-25).
Bridget McTamney had a hand in almost everything recording a double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs as well as 1 ace and 2 blocks.
Aybria Purnell led the team in kills with 8 while Ashley Brown and Julia Rabe each had 3. Defensively, Lauren Yancer and Ashley Morris had 10 and 9 digs on the match.
In the second match, the Griffins won two sets but couldn't complete the comeback. Notre Dame of Maryland took the match 3-2 (17-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16, 10-15).
Brown led the team in kills with 13 while Purnell contributed 12. Yancer had a team high 25 digs with 8 aces. McTamney had another double-double assisting 31 times with 24 digs. Brown and Purnell also had 3 blocks each.
The Griffins hung tough in the first two sets but ultimately came up short. However, Gwynedd battled back in the third set to grab a win off of a Brown kill. The Griffins tied up the match after going on a hot streak to win the third set.
In the fifth and final set, Notre Dame of Maryland reached 15 first and sealed the match victory.
Gwynedd's volleyball team is back in action Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Langhorne, Pa. to battle Cairn University.
