GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Gwynedd Mercy Women's Volleyball Team swept Bryn Mawr College Thursday evening with a dominant three set win (25-14, 25-15, 20-15).
Aybria Purnell did a little bit of everything in the victory with 14 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks. Ashley Morris was also a major contributor with 24 digs, 3 aces and 2 assists. With double-digit assists, Bridget McTamney set up a kill 27 times while also having 9 digs.
The Griffins led in all major statistical categories of the match with digs and kills being the most dominant.
To start the match, Gwynedd went up 6-0 easily before the Owls got points on the board. 9-5 was the closest score of the set until the Griffins pulled away. Gwynedd ended set one with a win after two Bryn Mawr errors.
Consistent play from Gwynedd in the second set contributed to a 5-0 run to stay ahead of the Owls. Purnell eventually sealed the set win with a kill. In the final set, the Griffins got on the board first until the Owls eventually tied it up at 9. Shortly after, Gwynedd went on a five-point streak to gain the lead and win the match.
Gwynedd is back in action Saturday, September 25th when they host a tri-match with Arcadia University (10 a.m.) and Notre Dame of Maryland University (2 p.m.).
