CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Gwynedd Mercy defeated Clarks Summit 3-0 Thursday evening as the Griffins dominated each set 25-10, 25-16, 25-19.
Julia Rabe led the team with 7 of the team's 28 kills. Bridget McTamney recorded another double-double performance with 22 assists and 11 digs while also adding 2 aces. Lauren Yancer also contributed all over the court with 6 digs, 1 assist and 2 aces.
The Griffins started the first set dominant scoring 7 straight points before the Defenders got on the board. Points went back and forth until the Defenders made 2 errors for the Griffins to take the first set.
The Griffins continued to capitalize on a handful of Clarks Summit's errors and jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the second set. The Defenders fought back until Rabe sealed the second set with a service ace.
In the opening of the final set, Clarks Summit took a 5-3 lead until the Griffins responded with a 10-1 run. Gwynedd continued to stretch their lead until the Defenders scored 11 quick points to bring the score to 21-19. The Griffins capitalized on two errors, a Yancer service ace and a Rabe kill to score the last 4 points for the match victory.
Gwynedd is back in action Saturday, September 18th when they travel to Reading, PA for a tri-match with Cedar Crest College at 1:00 p.m. and Alvernia University at 3:00 p.m.
