GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Baseball Team scored its first win for new head coach
Pete O'Hara as the Griffins split an Atlantic East Conference Doubleheader at home with Immaculata on Saturday. GMercyU won the first game, 8-3, but dropped the second, 15-7.
Game one
T.J. Brasier stayed hot from Friday's game between the two teams, doubling twice and driving in three runs while starter
Frank Ebling went into the seventh inning, allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
The Griffins plated three unearned runs in the second thanks to two IU errors and two hits. In the fifth, a sac fly from
Shaun Thomas and an RBI squeeze bunt from
Nick Price helped to open up a 5-1 lead.
Brasier added some insurance in the sixth with a bases-loaded clearing double.
Game two
The Mighty Macs used big innings in the seventh and ninth to open up a close contest. IU's Josh Crowding knocked in four runs on three hits and a walk.
GMercyU trailed into the fifth, 5-0, before a
Jake Martell RBI double got Gwynedd on the board. Now 6-2 heading into the seventh, Immaculata plated four runs in the top half. Crowding's two-run double in the ninth highlighted a four-run frame for the visitors.
Bobby Heck connected on a two-run home run in the ninth for Gwynedd. Starter
Mitchell Bramsway threw into the fifth and was charged with the loss.
Gwynedd Mercy returns to action next weekend with a series against Marywood. The Griffins and Pacers meet in Scranton for a single game on Friday before a DH here at home on Saturday, May 1st.
