GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy picked up their first win of the season in dominating fashion, notching a 16-1 victory over Wesley on Senior Day in an Atlantic East Conference matchup on Saturday.
Prior to the game, the team and coaching staff honored
Ryan Boyd,
Lucas Gray,
Nick Heiler,
Kohler Setley,
Philip Weis, and
Cross Zavada along with their families in a special ceremony.
The victory also gave head coach
Dana Lindstrom his 100th career coaching win in the process.
Setley (1 goal/5 assists) and
Jason Eide (four goals/two assists) led the team as each totaled six points on the day.
Tyler Long and
Justin Carney also added two goals apiece as the Griffins pulled away in the final quarter to secure the win.
After a scoreless first quarter,
John McCreary got GMercyU on the board at 13:17 of the second. Eide would later add two scores and tally from
Brendan Donovan in the frame put the Griffins up 4-0 at halftime.
Wesley's Kyle Mackall-Lloyd made it 4-1 early in the third before Carney found the back of the net and later a man-up goal from
Cameron Ostroff upped the lead to 6-1 heading into the fourth.
In that fourth quarter, Gwynedd fired off 18 of its 46 shots on the day potting 10 goals, including a pair of man-up scores.
Gray, Heiler, Jaxon Peoples, and
Jack Freeland also scored for Gwynedd.
Chase McFeeley registered his second-straight game with double-digit saves, finishing with 11. Wesley goalie Dylan Sicca recorded 16 stops.
The defense also put up 13 caused turnovers, led by five from Weis, which ties a single-game record, and Boyd, who added four. Weis, Boyd, and Donovan each nabbed five groundballs apiece respectively.
The Griffins are back in action on Wednesday, March 31st when they visit Marymount in Atlantic East action.
