GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Visiting Montclair State defeated Gwynedd Mercy, 18-4, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Rookie
Tyler Long scored twice and added an assist.
John McCreary and
Jason Eide also tallied for GMercyU.
Kohler Setley handed out three assists.
Philip Weis and
Cross Zavada each collected a team-high three groundballs. Zavada also went 4-for-6 in the faceoff circle.
Goalie
Chase McFeeley registered 15 saves, his second-most total as a Griffin. The Red Hawk's Matthew McLaren recorded six stops.
Tyler McCreery, Joe Covino, and Robert Brennan all had three goals apiece as Montclair broke open a 5-2 game at the half with nine third-quarter goals. MSU led 5-1 after the first quarter, but each team was able to slow each other down with just one goal apiece in the second. After the break, the Red Hawks fired 20 of their 48 shots in the third.
Long closed out the game's scoring with a man-up tally with 3:29 remaining.
The Griffins will turn their attention to this next Saturday when they open Atlantic East Conference play with a matchup with Wesley on Senior Day.
