Parker and Spencer Headline As Gwynedd Mercy University Triumphs Over Highlanders

Langhorne, Pa. - (12/11/2021) - Sophomore guard Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J.) and graduate forward Donaven Spencer (Sicklerville, N.J.) provided the prefect combination of perimeter and paint play to pace Cairn University (6-3) to a 48-35 (0:02) halftime spread and an eventual 83-70 (0:58) victory. Parker was 4-of-7 (.571) from long range and 6-of-6 (1.000) from the free throw line in a 20-point effort that came with two rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals. Spencer finished with his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He also provided Gwynedd Mercy University (6-2) with a team-high five assists and a steal. Sophomore guard Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) (13 points) and senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) (11 points) also finished in double figures.

Gwynedd Mercy University made their move in the latter half of the first period, emerging from a competitive start (28-26, 5:41) with a 20-9 run. The Griffins kept their distance in the second half, increasing the difference to as many as 19 points, 71-52, on a Clark layup with 10:30 remaining. Afterwards they staved off the Highlanders' final charge with plenty of success at the free throw line as Gwynedd Mercy University were 3-of-3 (1.000) at the charity stripe in the first half and 12-of-15 (.800) in the second half. Parker was not the only Griffin to find success from long range; Gwynedd Mercy University shot 12-of-28 (.429) from three-point territory.

Gwynedd Mercy University plays next on Friday, December 17, when they visit Bryn Athyn College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
