Towson, Md. - (10/8/2021) - Gwynedd Mercy University (6-12) nearly overturned tonight's decision at Goucher College (5-11) as the Griffins reversed a 2-0 deficit (25-23, 25-23) with third and fourth set wins of 25-19 and 30-28, before letting the fifth set slip, 15-11; 3-2. The Griffins hit .250 (14K-4E-40TA) as a team in their third-set victory. In the fourth set, sophomore middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior setter Bridget McTamney (Conshohocken, Pa.) spirited GMercyU to an 11-5 run forced the deciding frame.

Brown (12 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks assists, solo block) and sophomore outside hitter Aybria Purnell (Reading, Pa.) (14 kills, ace, block assist, block solo) each recorded 16.5 points for Gwynedd Mercy University. The former also recorded an assist and a dozen (12) digs, while the latter additionally provided 16 digs. McTamney finished with three kills, 44 assists, an ace, and 21 digs. Freshman middle blocker Lexi Lane (Frederick, Colo.) was the third Griffin with double-digit kills as she recorded a dozen (12) points on a team best .346 (12K-3E-26TA) hitting percentage, while senior libero Ashley Morris (Quakertown, Pa.) contributed two kills, two aces, and a team-high 37 digs to the GMercyU effort.

Gwynedd Mercy University wastes little time before getting back on the court tomorrow, Saturday, October 9, as they host Moravian University and Ramapo College of New Jersey (RCNJ) in a tri-match at The Griffin Complex. The Griffins begin the event with a 10:00 a.m. opening serve opposite the Greyhounds and end the affair with a 2:00 p.m. tilt with the Roadrunners.
