Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/9/2021) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-13) came out even in this afternoon's tri-match with Moravian University (10-12) and Ramapo College (5-11) as the Griffins recovered from a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-21) loss to the Greyhounds with an impressive 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-22) victory over the Roadrunners. In the first match, Moravian University's mid-set run separated them for a 25-15 opening-set win. The second set saw Greyhounds and Griffins trade runs; a five-ace service from McTamney put Gwynedd Mercy University ahead 19-10, before the visitors rallied for a 25-22 win. Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) recorded a team-high 8.5 points with six kills, an ace, a solo block, and a block assist. McTamney contributed two kills, 14 assists, five aces, a block assist, and nine digs. Morris recorded a team-high 17 digs to go along with a pair of assists.
Gwynedd University made their move against the Roadrunners midway through the first set as they quickly made a 14-11 difference a 20-11 gap with a series of kills from sophomore outside hitter
Julia Rabe (Virginia Beach, Va.), Purnell, and Brown. The frame ended in the Griffins' favor 25-17 and they improved their match-standing to 2-0 with a 25-20 win in the second set. The final set was tight the whole way with Gwynedd Mercy University edging out Ramapo College with a kill from Purnell (24-22) and attack error on the Roadrunners' frontline; 25-22. Purnell scored a team-high 14 points (11 kills, ace, 4 block assists), but she was well supported by an 11-point (9 kills, ace, two block assists) performance from Brown. McTamney totaled three kills, 27 assists, and 16 digs, while Morris pair her team-high 22 digs with a kill, and three assists.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to Atlantic East Conference (AEC) play on Wednesday, October 13, when they visit Marywood University for a 7:00 p.m. opening-serve.  Â
