GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy saw their three-game winning streak snapped with a 12-6 home defeat to DeSales Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins hung tough after a shaky first quarter as goalie
Chase McFeeley totaled 14 saves over the final three periods to keep things within striking distance. On offense,
Jacob Dzierzgowski led GMercyU with three goals while
Derek Alcavage added a pair and
Nick Freda with one.
Philip Weis totaled a career-best six ground balls while adding a pair of caused turnovers.
After the teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the game, the Bulldogs netted the next five to lead 6-1 heading into the second. Alcavage's tally got the Griffins to 8-2 at the break.
The score remained the same until Dzierzgowski's netted back-to-back tallies late in the third to get to a four-goal deficit. Freda's goal in the fourth once again pulled the team to within four, but DeSales scored two man-up goals over the final minutes to help seal the outcome.
Tom Connors led the Bulldogs with six points on four goals and two assists. Zach Bowen contributed three goals as well.
Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Wednesday when they make the short ride to Delaware Valley.
