February 27, 2020

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The defending Atlantic East Champions start their road to a repeat tonight as they welcome Marymount in a semifinal game of the AEC Men's Basketball Tournament here at The Griffin Complex starting at 7 p.m. Ironically, tonight's contest is a rematch of the title game from a year ago.

The Griffins enter tonight as the tournament's #2 seed and have earned a first-round bye. The third-seeded Saints took down #6 Marywood in quarterfinal action on Tuesday. Wesley is the top seed and will host fifth-seeded Immaculata in the other semifinal. Tonight's winners will meet on Saturday at the highest seeded team remaining for the Atlantic East Championship.

Gwynedd has won three in a row and five of their last six to end the regular season. The lone loss came at the hands of the Saints in Arlington, Virginia back on February 12th. In the team's first meeting on January 18th, the Griffins posted a 78-61 win at home.

Rich Dunham leads the Griffins as the senior is tops on the squad in scoring (20.4 ppg), free throw percentage (91%), three-pointers made (52), assists (81), and steals (55), while shooting over 51% from the floor and 45% from behind the arc. Additionally, his 91% free throw rate ranks him sixth in all of Division III. On the glass, Austin Harriott and Donaven Spencer average over six rebounds a game and are in the top 10 in the Atlantic East. Somah Slewion (8.4 ppg/40% FG) and Nathaniel Walker (7.2 ppg/42% FG) round out the probable five that has started 20 games together.

For the Saints, Steve Etienne averages 14.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.2 steals to lead the team. Xavier Reaves (11.5 ppg), Ibrahim Kamara (9.6 ppg), LaDarius McCord (9.5 ppg) and Taiga Walker (9.0 ppg) nearly average 10 points a game as well.
