PITTSBURGH, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy completed their Western Pennsylvania trip with an 8-3 victory over Chatham in the final day of the Three Rivers Classic.
Fresh off a career day in yesterday's win,
Derek Alcavage added to that as the senior eclipsed his personal bests with five points on four goals and an assist.
Jacob Dzierzgowski added two goals and two assists for four points and goalie
Chase McFeeley also had a big day, as the freshman recorded 21 saves.
The Cougars scored twice in the game's first 3:27 but McFeeley and the Griffin defense clamped down and did not allow another until the fourth quarter.
Dzierzgowski got GMercyU on the board in the latter parts of the first as the sophomore netted his first man-up goal. In the second,
Luke Xanthopoulos added a goal with Alcavage adding two more, including a late score with 13 ticks before the half to give the Griffins a 4-2 lead.
It became 6-2 after three quarters of play after tallies from Dzierzgowski again and
John McCreary.
Joey Giordano won 9 of his 12 faceoffs with
Nick Heiler going 1-for-2. Giordano had a team-high seven groundballs with
Bryan Butler picking up a career-best four.
Brendan Donovan also hit a personal high with three caused turnovers.
Jake Brown score twice for Chatham, who also got 15 saves from goalie Shane Gaglione.
The team returns home to face Bryn Athyn here on Tuesday afternoon in a 4 p.m. start.
