PITTSBURGH, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Lacrosse team scored a 13-3 victory over Westminster College on Saturday at the Three Rivers Classic played on the campus of Duquesne University.
Derek Alcavage led the Griffins with three goals and four points, both career highs to lead the team.Â
John McCreary also tallied three goals as well for the GMercyU offense.
Ryan Gartenmayer added a pair while
Joey Giordano,
Zach Wallen,
Jacob Dzierzgowski, and
Nick Heiler each added a goal as well.
Luke Xanthopoulos netted a man-down tally in the fourth quarter.
Giordano led the Griffins in face-offs picking up 11 out of 16 attempts in the 'X'. Heiler and
Cross Zavada each picked up a face-off win as well.
Defensively
Philip Weis caused three turnovers while
John McCreary,
Ryan Gartenmayer and
Kohler Setley caused turnovers as well. Xanthopoulos led the squad in groundballs with a personal-best nine. Giordano and
Brendan Donovan each picked up five.
Gwynedd led 5-1 after the first quarter and 6-1 at the half as Wallen scored the second stanza's only goal.
Chase McFeeley made 10 stops in goal to pick up the win. Westminster goalie Connor Doyle recorded 13 saves in over 57 minutes of action.
Dante Serra, Joe Rosa, and Nick Trella all netted goals for the Titans. Teammate Tyler Nordby added a pair of assists.
The Griffins return back to action tomorrow against Chatham University at 12 p.m.
