Gwynedd Mercy Takes Down Immaculata

Pushes win streak to seven

IMMACULATA, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy stayed undefeated in Atlantic East Conference action winning 83-69 at Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon, improving their winning streak to seven games.

Four Griffins reached double figures led by Rich Dunham with a game-high 21 points. Somah Slewion (18), Austin Harriott (11) and Nathaniel Walker (10) rounded out the double-digit scoring. Gwynedd's defense in the second half held IU, who was at a 16-for-25 shooting clip in the first stanza, to just 33% from the floor.

Harriott also recorded his first double-double of the season grabbing 10 rebounds. Donaven Spencer led GMercyU with a team high 12 boards to go along with nine points to help the Griffins control the glass 42-30 over the Mighty Macs.

Gwynedd jumped out to an early 20-4 lead thanks to a Dunham three-point play and Matt Carter triple assisted by Dunham within the first six minutes of the game. The Griffins would then hold a 27-17 lead midway through the half thanks to a Spencer three. Immaculata looked to respond, by taking a brief lead (36-35) with just under two minutes remaining but Gwynedd went back on top with a Dunham three pointer and Harriott free throw to lead 39-38 at the break.

Both teams exchanged the lead in the early stages of the second stanza. An Immaculata three pointer by Jeffery Powell-Young would give the home team their last lead (61-58) with 10:11 remaining in the contest.

A Slewion triple and Spencer lay-up would bookend an 11-0 run over that lasted three minutes and thirty four seconds to put GMercyU up for good, 69-61, where the lead swelled to double figures.

Dunham sank a pair of three pointers at the 5:18 and 4:21 marks to stretch the lead to thirteen (77-64) to help put IU in the rearview mirror for good.

Joran Ambrose and Asa Kitchen each scored 13 points to lead the home team.

The Griffins will hit the road on Wednesday traveling to Wesley at 8 p.m.
