GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Behind two second-half goals and a shutout from goalie
Kace Peters, the Gwynedd Mercy Men's Soccer Team picked up a 2-0 victory over visiting Wilson Thursday evening for their third win in their last four contests. It was a matchup of mythological mascots as both the Phoenix and the Griffins were seeking their third win of the season.
The first half would prove to be a defensive stalemate as both teams only managed to get off three shots total. A good look came from Oliver Perry of Wilson, who got a low shot off but right into the hands of Peters. GMercyU answered when
Kevin Bowers had his low-right shot saved by Wilson's Dan Perry. Both teams entered the locker room after 45 minutes in a scoreless stalemate.
After a couple halftime adjustments, Gwynedd Mercy stepped onto the pitch with a renewed sense of purpose. It took just seven minutes into the second stanza for freshman midfielder
Gavin Greenley to find the back of the net and open up the scoring on the night. For Greenley, the goal was his second on the year.
Gwynedd added an insurance tally in the 83rd minute to help seal the victory.
Kevin Hanuscin lobbed a beautiful pass to junior forward
Mike Czajka, who put the game away with a goal on the lower left corner of the net. Czajka netted his first on the season.
Both goalkeepers ended the night with two saves.Â
Kace Peters recorded a shut out on his 22nd birthday for his third career clean sheet.
The Griffins return to action this Saturday as they take on Albright at 11 a.m.Â
