PHOENIXVILLE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy picked up a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-17, 25-8) at Valley Forge on Wednesday in non-conference action.
The Griffins used key scoring stretches in each set to win in a sweep.
The team had two players reach double-digit kills, as
Liz Schule (12) and
Madelyn Mosser (10) led the attack.
Cait Saalfrank dialed up six aces to go along with her team-high 21 digs. As a team, Gwynedd hit 34-11-114, good for a .202 percentage.
In set one, the Patriots led 8-6 before GMercyU ran off 11-straight points where their lead never shrank under eight to go up, 1-0. Set two saw Valley Forge score the first six points (6-0) only again to see the Griffins rally to make the score 9-0 after a kill from Schule. Mosser's ender later broke a 12-12 score where Gwynedd registered the next five points, taking the lead for good. The team had 13 kills in the second set.
The Griffins ran out to an 8-2 advantage and later a 15-3 score in the third set to help lock things up.
Valley Forge totaled 14 kills on the evening, with five coming from Kaitlyn Hess. Hess also added five assists, 23 digs, and three aces.
The team heads to Cairn this weekend for a tri-match with the host Highlanders and Albright.
