GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy honored their nine seniors prior to the game, then went out and held Marywood to just one goal in the second half in a big 14-5 Atlantic East Conference men's lacrosse victory Wednesday night.
Ryan Simpson netted a game-high four goals while
Joseph Pandolfi,
Jacob Dzierzgowski,
Jordan Dzierzgowski, and
Derek Alcavage each netted a pair. Goalie
Aubron Swartley made eight of his 10 saves in the second half to slow down the Pacers.
Prior to the game the team and coaching staff honored its nine seniors: Simpson, Pandolfi,

Shawn Ryan,
David Reeser,
Anthony Pozsonyi, and team manager
Conor Curtin.
Tied at 2-2 after the first quarter, the Griffins put together a string of four-straight goals in the second, including a man-up tally from
Jordan Dzierzgowski. The team scored three times on the man up on the night, all coming as the first goal of the second, third, and fourth quarters. Marywood was able to score two late goals to cut the score to 6-4 at the half.
The team was a perfect 6-for-6 in clears and did not commit a turnover in the third while Swartley made six stops in the stanza. Alcavage netted a pair along with
Jacob Dzierzgowski and
Luke Xanthopoulos. It would be the start for eight in a row to open up a sizable lead.
Gwynedd Mercy hosts Wesley a week from tonight and with a win and some help, can clinch the #2 playoff seed and first-round bye. The Griffins are guaranteed at least a home playoff game.
