MIAMI SHORES, FL. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell in their first game at the HoopMia D3 Holiday Shootout to SUNY-Cortland, 69-60, Tuesday evening.
Rich Dunham paced the Griffins with a game-high 26 points but Gwynedd as a team shot under 40% for the first time this season and had just three three-pointers in the game, all coming from Dunham.
Austin Harriott kicked in 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
For the Red Dragons, Eric Edwards scored 25 points to lead three players in double figures.
Gwynedd fell behind by 10 points (14-4) early in the first thanks to six-straight points from Edwards. Harriott's putback with 4:57 in the half drew the Griffins to four (24-20). Dunham hit the second of his three treys on the final possession of the half to make it a six-point game at the break.
Staying within arm's reach in the second half, GMercyU ran into a 12-2 Cortland run giving the Red Dragons their largest lead of the game at 60-46 with just over six minutes to play. The team was able to cut into the double-digit lead in the final minute but was unable to grab the lead.
The Griffins conclude their trip to Florida with a game tomorrow night as they battle Wesleyan in a 6 p.m. tip.
