Griffins Set For Semifinal Play At Wesley

Game Preview

November 06, 2019

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy heads to Wesley on Wednesday for a 2019 Atlantic East Conference Tournament Semifinal matchup with a 4 p.m. pushback.

The two teams met in last season's inaugural AEC Championship Game with Wesley stunning the Griffins at home. GMercyU, the third seed, is eager to return the favor this year over the second-seeded Wolverines and move on to the title game this weekend.

In their regular-season matchup back on October 9th, Gwynedd fell on a late goal in a 1-0 defeat in Dover.

The Griffins took down Neumann, 3-0, on Saturday in first-round action, getting a pair of goals from Allison Campbell and a score from Dakota Hurwitz. Goalie Abi Kennedy recorded her third shutout of the season as Gwynedd dominated on the stat sheet.

Campbell is tied for the league lead with 12 goals on the season. Erika Cimino and Alyssa Tomsic each have totaled 12 points on five goals and two assists. Speaking of assists, Michaela Swenk's eight helpers ranks her second in the Atlantic East.

The goalie matchup is intriguing, as Kennedy boasts a 1.73 goals against average in 19 games, but the duo of Bridget Wood and Lauren Berry have a combined GAA just under a goal per contest.

Offensively, Wesley's Kaila Hindt is second in the AEC in points with 24 (9G/6A). Teammate Madison Cook also has tallied nine goals.

Wednesday's other semifinal game has top-seeded Marywood welcoming #4 Cabrini. The winners will meet on Saturday at the highest remaining seed for the Atlantic East Championship
