GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Third-seeded Gwynedd Mercy notched all their scoring in the second half en route to a 3-0 first-round victory over sixth-seeded Neumann on Saturday in the 2019 Atlantic East Field Hockey Tournament.
The Griffins move on to play at Wesley, the second seed, on Wednesday, November 6th at 4 p.m. in a semifinal matchup. The Wolverines edged GMercyU on a late goal, the only score in a 1-0 decision in the regular season meeting back on October 9th.
Saturday's action saw
Allison Campbell score twice for her fifth goal in the last three games.
Dakota Hurwitz also tallied for the Griffins as they racked up 18 shots and nine penalty corners on the day.
After a scoreless first half, Hurwitz potted her first collegiate score with 9:05 left in the third. The sophomore knocked in a ball that came right to her off a defensive save in the crease. Five minutes later, Campbell made it 2-0 as she had a pretty deflection off
Alyssa Tomsic's shot from the top of the arc.
Campbell capped the scoring with her team-leading 12th two minutes into the fourth as she put in a rebound off her own shot.
Gwynedd keeper
Abi Kennedy saw two shots and did record a save, but did earn her third shutout of the sesaon. Lizzie Yu notched six saves while teammate Tiffany Flowers had two of the team's three defensive saves.
