GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy lost in three sets to visiting Cabrini Wednesday evening at The Griffin Complex in an Atlantic East Conference clash. Scores were 25-15, 25-12, and 25-19.
Layne Morgan notched a season-best six kills but the team would generate a total of 20 on the night, compiling a 20-22-111 hitting line.
Bridget McTamney had her double double streak come to an end but by the slimmest of margins as the setter totaled 15 assists and nine digs.
Kerry McGlinn and
Cait Saalfrank led the team with 14 digs each respectively.
The Cavaliers were led by Steph Judkins who put together a match-high 11 kills. Katrina Shelly added eight while teammate Hannah Dalton kicked in six solo blocks. The team hit 37-14-111, reaching double-figure kills in all three sets.
Cabrini took the first two sets, but the Griffins did not go down without a fight in the third. A kill from
Liz Schule staked Gwynedd to an 8-5 lead. Now leading 10-7, the Cavs put together eight points in a row to force a Griffin timeout. GMercyU added their own run, using two aces from Saalfrank, a kill from Schule and a big double block from McGlinn and
Madelyn Mosser as part of a 6-0 spurt to take a 16-15 advantage.
After Cabrini took a lead,
Lauren Yancer's kill off a dig made it a 21-19 contest, but the Cavaliers closed it out with four points in row.
The team is back at it on Saturday when they head to Rutgers-Camden for a tri-match with the host and Brooklyn College starting at 11 a.m.
