Volleyball Splits At Rutgers-Camden Tri-Match

CAMDEN, N.J. -- Gwynedd Mercy split a pair of matches on Saturday in a tri-match at Rutgers-Camden. The Griffins took down the host Scarlet Raptors, 3-1, in the day's first match, but lost in a tough 3-2 decision to Brooklyn in their second contest.

In their four-set win over Rutgers-Camden (23-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-19), three players reached double-digit kills led by Layne Morgan with a team-high and season-high 15. Kerry McGlinn and Liz Schule added 10 apiece as the Griffins won three sets in a row after falling in the first. Setter Bridget McTamney recorded a career-best 31 digs while adding 39 assists.

Schule was on fire in the second match with the Bulldogs (25-20, 27-25, 17-25, 23-25, 19-17), going off for a career-high 21 kills. Cait Saalfrank tied her own single-game school record with 33 digs in the five-set thriller. Down 2-0, GMercyU used two big rallies to force a fifth and deciding set. They would fight off match point three times but Brooklyn was able to cement the win with a 19-17 score. McTamney hit another career best, totaling six aces as part of the team's 13.

Gwynedd Mercy plays at Neumann on Tuesday in Atlantic East Conference action.
