GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Volleyball Team swept past visiting Rosemont, 3-0, Thursday evening at The Griffin Complex. Set scores were 25-14, 25-17, 27-25.
Four players finished with five or more kills and the team served up 17 aces to win their fourth-straight match. As a team, the Griffins (9-7) hit 33-22-114, totaling the most kills in a three-set match this season.
Liz Schule led GMercyU with eight kills with
Madelyn Mosser adding seven.
Kerry McGlinn chipped in six and
Brittany Albert contributed five, but Gwynedd fought off set point in the third. The team closed it out with three points in a row to help stay unbeaten at home (6-0).
Setter
Bridget McTamney doled out 28 assists and added 10 digs for another double-double. The freshman along with
Cassie McCarney each fired out five aces each.
Gwynedd registered 10 aces in the first set alone, helping to shake off a slow start. Down 7-4, a kill from McCarney capped a 10-1 spurt to put them ahead for good. In the second, the Griffins built a 13-6 lead and later use a 5-1 run go up two sets.
In the third, 12 ties and six lead changes took place. Rosemont looked to push it to a four set, leading 20-15, but an ace from McTamney gave GMercyU a 22-21 advantage. The teams would trade points until the Ravens took advantage of an attack error to lead 25-24. Back-to-back kills from Mosser helped the Griffins to match point where a Rosemont attack was long, ending the three-set sweep.
Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter led the Ravens with eight kills and Abagail Brooks chipping in seven. Alyssa Springer kicked in 20 assists, seven digs, three blocks, and two kills.
Gwynedd Mercy is off until Tuesday when they host Wesley in their first home Atlantic East Conference matchup starting at 6 p.m.
