GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy suffered their first home defeat of the season falling to Wesley, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17), in an Atlantic East Conference match Tuesday night.

The Griffins (9-8, 0-2 Atlantic East) had their best hitting percentage in three-set matches this season, going 29-17-109 (.110), but the Wolverines put together a 44-12-118 (.271) hitting line that was tough to overcome.

Madelyn Mosser had nine of the 29 kills to lead GMercyU. Liz Schule added seven, along with four digs and a solo block. Setter Bridget McTamney doled out 25 assists, with six digs and four aces and added a big solo block in the third set.

Wesley (9-11, 1-0 Atlantic East) had two players finish with double-digit kills; Nya Lightfoot put down 11 attacks with teammate Elisa Hackendorn adding 10 kills.

The first set was a game of runs as Wesley scored the first seven points, forcing a Gwynedd timeout. The team regrouped and went on a 15-5 run take their first lead. The Wolverines countered with a 10-1 spurt of their own to lead 22-16. The team had just four attack errors in the first, but two of them resulted in the final two points for Wesley.

In the second, the team put together 10 kills, but Wesley answered with 16, which helped them lead from start to finish.

The third set saw the both teams go step for step early in a 9-9 score. Wesley scored four points in a row to take a lead they would not relinquish to help close it out.

The team is right back at it on Thursday when they battle Division II Cheyney here at The Griffin Complex at 6 p.m.
