GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy took down visiting Cheyney, 3-0, in non-conference action Thursday evening at The Griffin Complex. Set scores were 25-19, 25-12, and 25-19.
The victory improves the Griffins to 10-8 on the season as the team now has hit double digits in wins for the first time since 2006.
The team totaled 29 kills for the second-straight match, this time on 88 attempts with 17 errors for a .136 hitting percentage on the night.
Brittany Albert led the attack with a match-high eight kills with
Cassie McCarney and
Madelyn Mosser each contributing six.
McCarney along with
Bridget McTamney served up three aces apiece, as the Griffins totaled 12.
Alaiya Cave led the Wolves (1-8) with seven eight kills. Teammate Virshawna Campbell had seven along with eight assists, and seven digs.
A 14-6 run in the first set helped turn a one-point deficit into a comfortable advantage capped by block from McTamney and
Kaylee Craig for a 22-15 lead. The second set saw GMercyU run out to a 13-3 edge and not look back as the squad totaled 11 of their 29 kills in the frame. The team was able to finish off Cheyney in the third, rallying from a 15-11 hole with six-straight points. Leading 20-18, Gwynedd scored five of the next six points to close it out and pick up their tenth win on the year.
The team returns to action on Wednesday as they head to Cabrini in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
