GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy used the spark of a big rally in the second set to go on and defeat visiting Cairn, 3-1 (25-16, 26-24, 20-25, 25-12), Tuesday night at The Griffin Complex.
Down 24-19 in the second and facing set point, the Griffins (4-4) rattled off seven-straight points, getting an ace and three kills in that span to take a 2-0 lead. In the first set, the team used four points in a row to close out a 25-16 win.
Madelyn Mosser led Gwynedd with 10 kills and four blocks (one solo).
Brittany Albert was a kill shy of a double-double, tallying a career-high nine while adding 15 digs. Also notching a personal best was
Kerry McGlinn who totaled eight enders. As a team, Gwynedd produced a 42-19-139 (.165) hitting line on the night, including a 10-2-28 spot in the fourth and deciding set.
Lyntia Gwess led the Highlanders (2-4) with a match-high 15 kills and 11 hitting errors. The team was guilty for a total of 30 hitting errors on a 34-30-140 (.029) hitting mark for the evening. Cairn built an 8-2 lead in the third and later led 19-10 before Gwynedd looked to make another comeback with six points in a row to get within three.
In the fourth set, Gwynedd sprinted out to a 9-3 advantage and cruised to their second home win in as many matches.
The team will return to action on Thursday night as they host Albright starting at 6 p.m.
