Hoch Named Griffin Softball Coach

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Athletic Department is pleased to announce David Hoch as head coach of the Griffin Softball Program.

His coaching resume includes a stint as head coach at Penn State-Abington from 2011 to 2018. While at Abington, Hoch led the Lions to the playoffs five seasons in a row, including a pair of runner-up North East Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship appearances. In his eight seasons, he has amassed over 130 victories.

Prior to Penn State-Abington, Hoch was the head coach at Archbishop Wood High School for seven seasons, as part of the Philadelphia Catholic League. Hoch was also an assistant at St. Hubert for seven years.

He is the founder of the Philadelphia Angels Travel Softball Program, which originated in 2008, comprising of teams in the U18 and U16 age brackets. Hoch has also spent time with the Philadelphia Phillies RBI Softball Program.

Joining the coaching staff will be Leo Medernach, who was an assistant with Hoch at Penn State-Abington.

Hoch takes over the reins of a team that won a school-record 30 games last season and claimed the conference's top playoff seed.  The Griffins begin their 2019 campaign over Spring Break when they head to North Myrtle Beach, S.C. during the first full week of March.
