GLENSIDE, PA. -- In the fourth annual Battle of Route 309, Gwynedd Mercy came out on the wrong end of a 65-56 decision to rival Arcadia Tuesday evening.

The Griffins trailed by as many as 12 in the first half and 11 in the second, battled back, getting within one on three occasions, the last coming at 46-45 with 7:26 left off a three from Rich Dunham. The Knights, however, were able to convert from the free throw line down the stretch to hold off Gwynedd.

Clayton Wolfe had 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists to lead GMercyU. Dunham finished with 12 points, four boards, and two assists.

Six first-half treys from Arcadia kept the Griffins chasing the lead. The team shot 45% in the first 20 minutes while AU was 38%. A triple with 3:53 in the first put Gwynedd in a 29-17 hole. Three's from Wolfe and Matt Sommers helped the team climb to 34-27 at halftime.

Back-to-back triples from Wolfe and Matt Carter along with a big dunk from Sommers was part of a 10-0 spurt to make it a one-point show (41-40) at the 12:26 mark. The Knights countered with a run of their own, as Josh Scott hit the third of his three three-pointers to outscore Gwynedd, 7-0, to take an eight-point advantage. The Griffins clawed to get within five (61-56) with 32 ticks, but could not pull any closer.

Scott finished the night with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Teammate Da'Kquan Davis registered 18 points for the Knights.

Gwynedd Mercy is off until next Wednesday when they head out to York.
