CAMDEN, N.J. -- Gwynedd Mercy fell in both matches of a tri-match at Rutgers-Camden on Saturday, falling to the host Scarlet-Raptors, 25-19,25-17,17-25,25-19, and St. Joseph's of Long Island, 25-18,25-17,25-16.
In the day's first match against Rutgers-Camden,
Cait Saalfrank was three digs shy of tying her own school record, totaling 41. It was the second most in a game in program history. With those 41 digs, Saalfrank also set a single-season mark as the sophomore now has 479 on the year. She also contributed three aced and five assists in the match.
The team didn't find its footing until the third set, where they hit over .225 (10-3-31) to try and extend the match. In the fourth set, both teams battled through nine ties and seven lead changes before the Scarlet-Raptors closed out the match with a 9-2 run.
Madelyn Mosser notched her sixth match with double-digit kills, finishing with a team-high 11.
Cassie McCarney added seven kills along with three aces and a block. Setter
Bridget McTamney chipped in 29 assists and 22 digs.
Morgan Mulligan led R-C with 17 kills as the team reached double figures in kills in all four sets.
The Griffins had to turn around to take on the Golden Eagles, where they continued to battle from behind.
McCarney was the kill leader, totaling six as the team produced a 26-16-111 (.090) hitting line. Mosser kicked in five enders along with 15 digs.
Amanda Goldstein led SJCLI with a match-high 12 kills.
Gwynedd Mercy plays at home on Tuesday when they welcome Neumann in Atlantic East Conference action starting at 7 p.m.
