HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- With a 3-0 win at Centenary, the Gwynedd Mercy Volleyball Team picked up their first Colonial States Athletic Conference victory Thursday night. Set scores were 25-16, 25-15, and 25-17.
The Griffins (4-10, 1-2 CSAC) served up a season-best 20 aces led by rookie
Cait Saalfrank with a personal high seven.
Liz Schule totaled five and
Cassie McCarney picked up four. Schule had top kill honors with a game-high eight.
Abreeanna Bisenius chipped in seven enders as part of the team's 20 kills.
Tied at 9-9 in the first set, GMercyU scored three-straight points to hold the lead the rest of the way including a 7-1 run to go up 1-0. In the second, Gwynedd scored the first five points only to see the Cyclones battle back to knot it up at 6-6. From there, a 9-2 spurt kept Centenary in the rearview mirrors as GM went up two sets to none.
The third set was full on scoring runs, as each team put together scoring stretches. Gwynedd had the biggest run of the match, using a 13-4 spurt to close it out.
Melissa Kruger was a dig shy of a double-double for Centenary (1-6, 0-1 CSAC).
Gwynedd Mercy heads to Alvernia on Saturday for a tri-match with the Crusaders and Bryn Mawr.
