READING, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy Volleyball team went 1-1 at Alvernia's tri-match featuring Bryn Mawr on Saturday. The Griffins downed the Owls, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-9), but later fell to the host Crusaders, 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-15).
Against Bryn Mawr, GMercyU turned in their best hitting line of the season, going 29-10-73 (.260).
Abreeanna Bisenius and
Rainah Dunham each totaled nine, both match highs.
Cassie McCarney chipped in five kills, four aces and four digs.
With a 25-19 win in the first set, the Griffins pulled away late in set two. Leading 17-12, GM went on an 8-2 run to go up 2-0. In the third, the team committed just two hitting errors, while closing the match on 17-4 spurt. For the match, the 10 team errors tied a season-low.
The match with Alvernia saw Gwynedd struggle, as the team produced 12 kills.
Natalie Danze had her second-straight match with three aces while
Cait Saalfrank went for double-digit digs with 15.
Gwynedd led 14-11 in the first set, but the Crusaders put in 10-straight points to take the lead for good. Alvernia would score eight of the first nine points in set number two adding to their advantage. The Griffins booked an early 9-0 run in the third, using the three aces from Danze, to lead, 9-4. The Crusaders turned the match around with a 10-3 spurt and did not look back.
On Monday, the Griffins will host a CSAC tri-match with Clarks Summit and Neumann. GM will take on the Crusaders starting at 4 p.m. CSU then plays the Knights at 6 with Neumann and Gwynedd clashing at 8.
