LAPLUME, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy headed up to Keystone to take part in a tri-match with the host Giants and Wilson, but the Griffins came back home empty handed. GMercyU fell to Keystone, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-18) in CSAC action and the Express, 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13) in a non-conference matchup.
In the match with Keystone, the Griffins totaled 19 kills, seven of which came from sophomore
Abreeanna Bisenius. The Giants would use a 10-2 run to break a 15-15 to win set one. Down 19-14 in the second, Gwynedd ran off five-straight points to tie it late, but again, Keystone used a spurt of their own, a 6-1 run to take set two. In the third, GM tried to keep pace after a kill from
Liz Schule to make it 13-10, but Keystone was able to keep a five-point cushion the rest of the way.
Cait Saalfrank added 14 digs and a pair of aces for Gwynedd. Malley Bowen registered 24 assists, six digs, four aces, and three kills for Keystone.
Bisenius and Schule would each record 11 kills against Wilson as the team totaled 33. Setter
Kerry McGlinn recorded 33 assists along with five digs. Schule also kicked in seven digs, a solo block and an ace. Saalfrank registered 23 digs in the match.
After dropping the first set against the Express, Gwynedd seized a 6-5 lead to go up 17-10 after a kill from
Kaylee Craig. Wells would net five points in a row to get within two and force a GM timeout. Now leading 20-19, Schule recorded three kills as part of a 5-2 run to take the second set.
The third had Wells go out to a 10-1 lead, keeping enough distance from the Griffins to move it to a fourth set. In that fourth set, Wells put together a 9-0 spurt to lead 12-4 and go on and take the match.
Gwynedd Mercy (3-9) resumes action on Monday when they head to Albright for a 7 p.m. start.
