PHOENIXVILLE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy scored their first wins on the season as well as the first victories for first-year head coach
Kristen Johnson as the Griffins took down Bryn Athyn, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-17), and the host Valley Forge, 3-0 (25-17,25-17,25-14) in a tri-match Tuesday night.
Against Bryn Athyn,
Abreeanna Bisenius and
Liz Schule each had nine kills to lead all attackers. Rookie
Cait Saalfrank added 16 digs and three aces, both match highs.
Cassie McCarney also reached double figures in digs with 14 as the Griffins led from start to finish in all three sets.
Bisenius and Schule also tallied nine enders apiece against the Patriots but it was rookie
Rainah Dunham to collected 10 kills and four kills (three solo) for GMercyU. Saalfrank would contribute more match highs of 23 digs and four aces.
The Griffins amassed 14 of their 30 kills in the third and deciding set. Leading 13-12, Gwynedd ran off 12 of the next 14 points to close out their second win on the evening.
For the match, GM posted a hitting line of 30-14-118 (.136). Setter
Kerry McGlinn dished out 25 of the team's 27 assists.
