Offense Shines As Griffins Celebrate Seniors

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy honored its senior class on Saturday then went out and turned in a season-high in goals in a 27-4 Colonial States Athletic Conference win over Keystone.

The 27 goals are one shy of a single-game team record while the 37 points ranked third-most all time. The team, however, did set a program mark in faceoffs, winning 27-of-35 in the middle on the day.

Prior to the contest, the team took time to honor its six seniors and their families: Matt Collins, Sean Myers, Marc Bushong, Alfonso Manzo, Storm Gehrke, and Jacob Snavely.

Snavely led a balanced attack, netting a career-high six goals as a total of 13 different players found the back of the net. Ryan Simpson and Daniel Decker each added three scores apiece as GMercyU (4-5, 2-1 CSAC) built an 8-1 after the first quarter and did not look back. Kris Boyd, Joseph Pandolfi, Dominic Moscariello, Jordan Dzierzgowski, and Derek Alcavage each chipped in two goals.

The goalie tandem of Myers and Gehrke yielded just four goals on the day. Defensively, Bushong totaled eight groundballs and three caused turnovers, both game highs. Manzo, Shawn Ryan, and Nick Squicciarini each forced two turnovers.

Joey Giordano was a perfect 14-for-14 on faceoffs while Joe Simpson was at an 8-for-14 clip.

Caleb Strope had a goal and assist for the Giants (1-8, 0-3 CSAC). Teammate Alec Lloyd also netted a pair of goals for the Giants. Goalie Nicholas Vazquez made 11 saves in the first half while Dean Orofino recorded six in the second.

Gwynedd Mercy welcomes Immaculata on Tuesday night in an important CSAC matchup. Start time is slated for 7 p.m.
