GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy had six players with two or more goals and the defense held the opposition to four goals for the third-straight game as the Griffins knocked around Immaculata, 18-4, Tuesday evening in CSAC action.
Ryan Simpson sparked the offense with three goals and two assists. Brother
Joe Simpson excelled in the faceoff circle, tying a single-game record with 23 draws as he was 23-for-26 and was one groundball shy of tying that mark, as he collected 15.
Joseph Pandolfi and
Jordan Dzierzgowski also netted three goals each with
Alfonso Manzo,
Dominic Moscariello, and
Daniel Decker added two apiece.
The Griffins (5-5, 3-1 CSAC) would build a 5-0 lead in the first quarter before IU's Sam Zingaro put the Mighty Macs on the board. Manzo scored both of his goals on the night in the second, the last coming with nine seconds in the quarter, to put the squad up, 9-2, at the break.
The Gwynedd defense limited Immaculata to just one goal per quarter, and forced nine turnovers, five from
Marc Bushong which tied a single-game record. The five caused turnovers also gave Bushong exactly 100 for his career. He is the program's all-time career, season, and game leader in this category.
The goalie tandem of
Sean Myers and
Storm Gehrke combined to make four saves. Denton States made 17 stops for IU (3-8, 2-2 CSAC).
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action next Wednesday night, where they welcome Neumann.
