GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy had its first home game of the 2017 season, but it was Haverford coming away with a 5-1 decision on Wednesday.
Goalie
Sean Myers made 11 saves and the Griffin Defense kept the team in the game, totaling four caused turnovers and helping force 16 turnovers and as a team were a perfect 13-for-13 on clears.
Joe Simpson was solid in the circle, winning 7-of-10 faceoffs.
After the Fords scored first,
Joseph Pandolfi put one in later in the quarter off a feed from
Zach Getchius. Tied at 1-1 going into the second, both teams traded possessions early on but could not find paydirt. Haverford put together a string of chances in a three-minute span and would get one past Myers. Stephen DeLeo made it a two-goal game right before the half to give the Fords a 3-1 edge at halftime.
Each team had four shots in the third, but the Griffins could not solve Haverford goalie Dylan Slack. The Fords made it 4-1 with a goal with 1:41 remaining in the quarter. DeLeo would add his second on the day early in the fourth to account for the scoring.
Slack had seven saves while Ryan Tetro assisted on both of DeLeo's goals.
Defensively,
Marc Bushong etched five groundballs and two caused turnovers.
The team will get right back at it on Saturday when they welcome Mount Saint Mary in a 1 p.m. start.
