Men's Lacrosse Closely Edged Out At Lycoming In Season Opener

WILLIAMSPORT, PA.  -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Lacrosse team started their 2017 season on the road at Lycoming College on Saturday, but the Griffins fell to the Warriors, 7-6.

Ryan Simpson scored a pair of goals and added an assist for the Griffins. Eric Thomas, Joseph Pandolfi, Jacob Snavely and Dominic Moscariello each added goals, but GMercyU
ran out of time as they looked to rally in the final quarter.

Lycoming took an early 3-1 lead after the first stanza. Pandolfi would score the game's first goal but the Warriors with scored three unanswered.

Snavely would cut the lead to 3-2 with 11:18 remaining in the 2nd quarter. Lycoming with respond with a goal at the 6:18 mark and hold the 4-2 lead into the halftime break.

The Warriors would stretch their lead to four (6-2) at the 10:29 mark of the third. Thomas would cut into the lead to 6-3 with his goal at the 1:59 mark of the third.

Andrew Ream would put Lycoming up 7-3 with 10:13 remaining. The Griffins would score three goals in the fourth quarter. Simpson at 8:40 and 7:58 and Moscariello with 3:16 left. GM had chance with just over two minutes remaining but was denied by Michael Tenant.

Simpson and brother Joe Simpson led Gwynedd with six groundballs apiece. Andrew Ream lead the Warriors with three goals and two assists.

Sean Myers made three saves while counterpart Tenant made 16 for Lycoming.

The team heads to Virginia next weekend to face off with Ferrum College in a 1 p.m. start.
