Griffins Get On The Offensive In Win At Keystone

LAPLUME, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy had five players in double figures as the Griffins hit the century mark for the first time this season in a 101-67 CSAC win at Keystone on Saturday.

Rip Engel had a game-high 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, hitting five three pointers and dishing out five assists. Courtney Cubbage posted his fourth double double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Cedric Elleby and Arron Goodman netted 12 apiece while Will Davis added 11.

Mark Gilliam led Keystone with 12 points as Gwynedd (18-5, 12-4 CSAC) held the Giants to just under 23% shooting in the first half to help build a substantial lead.

Engel's trifecta would cap a 17-4 run just 4:07 into the contest. Later, his three-point play stretched the lead to 16 (22-6). Cubbage ended an 11-0 run with a thunderous dunk to give GMercyU a 35-10 advantage. They would use that momentum to take a 52-26 lead into the lockerroom at half.

For the game, Gwynedd was 39-of-81 (48%) while totaling nine treys. The team would capitalize on 13 Keystone turnovers, leading to 27 points off those miscues. The squad also totaled a season-high 27 assists, as a total of 10 different players were able to spread the ball around. Ty Jones also dealt out five dimes, while Elleby and Rich Dunham recorded four apiece.

The Griffins will close out their home slate of the regular season on Wednesday when they host Clarks Summit. With two wins in their last two games, Gwynedd can clinch the #2 playoff seed and a first-round bye. They'll close out the season next Saturday at Cabrini, who is also fighting for the second playoff berth.
