Late Bucket Caps Wild Win At Rosemont

ROSEMONT, PA. -- Ty Jones would hit the go-ahead bucket with 0.7 seconds remaining to cap a late 5-0 run as Gwynedd Mercy came away with an exciting 90-88 win at Rosemont on Saturday.

Jones' bucket came after a big defensive stop as Cedric Elleby blocked a shot in the Raven's previous possession in a tie contest. Prior to that, Elleby would hit a bucket and draw the foul for a three-point play which would knot things up at 88-88.

After Elleby's block, Rip Engel would grab the rebound and feed a streaking Jones to take one final lead.

Rich Dunham would finish with a season-high 16 points. Elleby registered 24 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double on the year while Arron Goodman netted 20 points. Engel would kick in 11. Dunham, Goodman, and Engel would all total six of the team's seven three-pointers on the day.

Points were adding up in the first half as the Griffins and Ravens totaled 107 in the first stanza, with Gwynedd leading 55-52. GM would trail by as much as six early on, but Goodman would put back his own miss and later sank a triple for a five-point edge.

A 7-0 Gwynedd run early in the second helped erase a 61-55 Rosemont lead. The back-and-forth half featured 10 ties and seven lead changes.

A three-pointer from Clayton Wolfe gave the Ravens an 86-81 lead with 3:59 to play. After two-straight buckets from Goodman on consecutive possessions, Wolfe struck again to make it 88-85 with just 24 ticks, setting up the final sequence in the contest.

Wolfe would finish with 20 points and teammate Khai Roberts totaled 22. Jamier Hughes collected 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Ravens shot over 53% in the first half, but Gwynedd held them to a 40% effort in the second.

The Griffins made the most of their chances at the free-throw line, going a perfect 20-for-20 in the first half and 5-of-9 in the second. Dunham made all eight of his attempts at the charity stripe. The team outrebounded (45-32) its opponent for the seventh game in a row.

Next up for Gwynedd Mercy is Wednesday's matchup at Immaculata. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m.
