ALLENTOWN, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Volleyball team defeated Cedar Crest, 3-1, (25-17, 25-15, 17-25 and 25-12) in a Colonial States Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening to extend their win streak to three games and more importantly, move over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

GMercyU totaled 24 kills and a season-high 20 aces. Casey Griffith and Maggie Gorman each tallied six kills and six aces respectively on the night.

The Griffins (7-6, 3-1 CSAC) took an early 5-2 lead in set one thanks to a pair of service aces from Griffith. The Falcons (3-6, 0-2 CSAC) would respond with five straight points for a 7-5 lead. Gwynedd would answer with six-straight points for an 11-7 lead highlighted with a pair of kills from Gorman. They would stretch their lead to 18-9 capitalizing on five Falcon errors and close out the set, 25-17.

GMercyU never trailed in the second, taking an early 12-3 lead with three service aces from Gorman and a pair of kills by Liz Schule. Griffith would help end the set at 25-15 with a pair of kills.

The third set was a back and forth match that saw seven ties in the set the last at 13-13. Cedar Crest would take momentum from that point recording seven straight points for a 20-13 lead. They would win the set, 25-17.

In the fourth and decisive set, the Griffins would not let their lead slip away taking a commanding 15-4 lead on a pair of Schule aces. Gwynedd would wrap up the set with a 25-12 win on a Cassie McCarney kill.

The Griffins return back to action tomorrow night when they host Rutgers-Camden at the Griffin Complex starting at 7 p.m.
