Griffin Block Party Does In Bryn Athyn

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A big rally in the second set helped propel Gwynedd Mercy to a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-23, 25-17) over Bryn Athyn Tuesday evening at The Griffin Complex.

Casey Griffith notched her fifth double-double of the season, totaling a match-high 13 kills while adding 11 digs. Laura Kirk shoveled out 16 digs and chipped in four aces as the Griffins (5-6) came back from a 7-0 deficit in the second to finally tie it at 23-23 and use the momentum of their five points in a row, notching a 25-23 come-from-behind win.

The first set saw no team lead by more than three as a total of nine lead changes and five ties took place. Leading 18-17, GMercyU ran off the next seven points including three big kills from rookie Abreeanna Bisenius, including the ender, to go ahead, 1-0.

After their exciting second set, the third looked to be similar to the first. Tied early at 5-5, the Griffins fired off nine points in a row and would never have a lead lesser than six to go and close out the match.

Bisenius finished with four kills on the night. She was a part of a block party, as the squad totaled 14 blocks (assisted). Bisenius and Liz Schule had three apiece while Jessica Behr totaled a career-high four.

Alexis Juritsch led the Lions (4-5) with seven kills. Catherine Kirk added 10 assists, four aces, and three digs.

The Griffins resume action on Thursday when Rosemont visits for a Colonial States Athletic Conference match right here starting at 7 p.m.
