GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy hosted Cairn and Keystone in a Colonial States Athletic Conference Tri-match Saturday at The Griffin Complex with GMercyU going 1-1 on the day. In the process, another individual milestone was reached.
The day's first match saw the Griffins sweep Cairn, 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 26-24). Senior
Laura Kirk would record her 1,000th career dig in the third set, capping a week that also featured another personal feat from teammate
Casey Griffith.
Griffith again flirted with a triple double, registering a game-high 13 kills along with nine digs and seven aces. Kirk and
Liz Schule each chipped in three aces as the team totaled 19, a season-high.
Maggie Gorman would record a double-double, her first career one, compiling 19 assists and 10 digs.
A 10-0 run midway in the first set helped open up a 22-10 lead. Griffith would close out the win with an ace for the 25-14 score.
GMercyU would commit just two hitting errors in the second, a set win which they never trailed. In the third, the Griffins fought off set point by scoring six-straight to earn the 26-24 win and clinch the match. With Schule serving, Griffith totaled four kills in the run including the game ender.
Whitney Seidel led Cairn with six kills.
Gwynedd's next outing against Keystone didn't fare as well as the Giants won, 3-0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-8). The team had more hitting errors than kills for just the second time this season.
Kirk was the bright spot, adding a match-high 15 digs.
Hannah Zuchowski paced the Giants with 10 kills, seven digs, and five assists.
Keystone would defeat Cairn, 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-4) in the sandwich match.
Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Tuesday when they welcome Bryn Athyn in a 7 p.m. start.
