2016 CSAC Tournament Semifinal

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Second-seeded Gwynedd Mercy won their first-ever home playoff game on Saturday, storming into the CSAC Championship with a 17-3 win over Centenary in a semifinal matchup.

The Griffins (10-4) will take on top seed and defending champion Cabrini next Saturday, May 7th.

GMercyU opened the flood gates after a tight one-goal first quarter with six scores in the second to take an overwhelming 8-1 edge at the half.

Dillon Cave led the Griffins with a career-high five points (2G, 3A) while Jacob Snavely tied a personal high with three goals. Tony McCraw, Blase Cesarone and Nick Guglielmi all added two scores apiece as the Griffins will make their third appearance in the championship game in just their eighth season.

Both teams had six shots apiece in a very close first quarter. Nolan Gottshall would put the Cyclones on the board first with his unassisted score 3:20 into the game. Less than a minute later, rookie Joseph Panolfi responded with the Griffins' first goal on an assist from Alfonzo Manzo. Guglielmi would net the first of his two on the day at the 9:12 mark where the score would stand into the second.

In a 2:27 span in the second, the Griffins scored four times to open up the contest. McCraw would net his second with nine seconds remaining before half to up the advantage to 8-1.

Gwynedd outshot Centenary, 32-6, in the second half alone and 55-15 for the game.

Goalie Sean Myers made four stops while Centenary's Kevin Switzer was kept busy, making 16 saves for the Cyclones (9-6).

Game Notes: Sean Miller recorded a career-best four caused turnovers…McCraw was 14-of-15 on faceoffs and led the team with nine groundballs, a season high…This is the 12th game of the season the Griffins have held opponents to less than 10 goals in a game.
