RADNOR, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy had their season come to a close, falling to Cabrini, 21-6, in the 2016 Colonial States Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship.
The Griffins were making their third appearance in the title game but their first as a #2 seed.
Tony McCraw and
Dominic Moscariello each had a goal and an assist for GMercyU, while
Nick Guglielmi,
Tommy Belmont,
Jacob Snavely, and
Ryan Simpson also netted a goal.
Championship MVP Matt LoParo led all scorers with 10 points on eight goals and two assists for the Cavaliers. Ethan Heisman and Timmy Brooks had three goals each as Cabrini won their 15th conference title in a row.
LoParo would net two of the game's first three goals to put Gwynedd in a 3-0 deficit. McCraw would answer with an unassisted tally at the 6:36 mark, but the Cavs would add three more to close the quarter to lead 6-1 after the first. Cabrini would build on their lead and hold a 12-2 edge at halftime.
McCraw would lead the groundball corps with five while Simpson,
Corey Giampietro, and goalie
Sean Myers added four apiece. Myers, along with
Marc Bushong and
Tom Terra, forced two turnovers each.
Myers made eight saves in the first half in net.
Chris Burns entered in the beginning of the third and would total nine stops.
The loss marks the end of the team's 10 seniors: McCraw, Belmont, Guglielmi, Terra,
Brandon Brown,
Blase Cesarone,
Nolan Soulas,
Nick Harkins,
Brad Keeney, and
Dillon Cave. McCraw leaves the program as one of its most prolific players in school history with a bevy of career, season, and game scoring records. A two-time conference player of the year, McCraw has amassed 198 points on 138 goals and 60 assists 59 career games.
The Griffins finish the 2016 season with a final record of 10-5.
