IMMACULATA, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy won its CSAC opener over Immaculata in a 14-4 win Wednesday night.
The Griffins (4-3, 1-0 CSAC) used a seven-goal quarter in the third to pull away from a 5-2 halftime lead and pick up the win.
Tony McCraw led GMercyU with a game-high four goals and two assists.
Jacob Snavely added three scores and a helper.
Leading 3-2 midway into the second quarter, the Griffins rattled off two goals to close the period and four more to open the third, for a total of six-straight scores, turning a one-goal game into a 9-2 advantage.
McCraw added his third on the night at the 8:46 mark of the third. Less than a minute later,
Nick Guglielmi got on the scoring act to make it 7-2. Gwynedd later cashed in on an Immaculata penalty as rookie
Jordan Dzierzgowski scored a man-up goal at the 6:52 mark followed by McCraw's fourth with 4:35 to go in the quarter.
Defensively, the Griffins held the Mighty Macs to just 15 shots. It is the fifth time in program history Gwynedd has held an opponent to under 20 shots. GMercyU would total 56 on the evening. IU goalie Christian Custodio was kept busy, making 18 saves.
Sean Myers totaled up nine stops for his fourth win on the season.
Guglielmi finished with two goals while
Dillon Cave,
Alfonso Manzo,
Chris Mateer, and
Ryan Simpson also tallied for Gwynedd Mercy.
Brad Keeney would win 12 of 20 faceoffs as well.
The Griffins will head to Marywood on Saturday for a CSAC clash with the Pacers. Gametime is 4 p.m.
