GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy used a big fourth quarter in defeating DeSales, 10-7, Saturday afternoon for their second win on the season.
Tony McCraw had three goals and three assists while the Griffin defense did not allow a goal in the entire fourth quarter.
Tommy Belmont and
Jacob Snavely each registered two goals while
Dillon Cave,
Nick Guglielmi, and
Ryan Simpson also found the back of the net for GMercyU (2-3).
Josh Harman potted three scores while Joe Neggia added two goals and two helpers for the Bulldogs (0-5).
McCraw would open the scoring on the day, netting an unassisted tally just 1:04 into the contest. He would add his second of the quarter just under four minutes later. DeSales' Ryan Loughlin would cut the lead in half in the latter stages of the stanza. His goal would start a string of four-straight. Neggia would add back-to-back goals midway in the second to give DSU a 4-2 edge.
Belmont's goal pulled GM within one in the latter stages of the quarter. After forcing a turnover, Gwynedd would get the ball back with 10 seconds before halftime and call a timeout. McCraw would hook up with Snavely seconds later to tie the game a 5-5 as the teams went into the break.
Harman would tally his third at the 13:07 mark of the third followed by a score from Jake McNamara less than a minute later to give DeSales a two-goal lead once again. It would be the last goal scored by the Bulldogs on the day. Cave would net his first on the year right before the end of the third to make it a one-goal game heading into the final quarter.
Gwynedd would fire off 12 of their 31 shots in the fourth. McCraw started the scoring with his third on the day just a minute in, a nice behind the back shot in the crease, to tie it at 7-7. Like they did at the end of the second quarter, the Griffins would call a timeout and would get the same result as Snavely netted his second off a quick pass from McCraw to reclaim the lead.
Belmont would score his second at the 9:44 mark to up the lead to 9-7. The defense and goalie
Sean Myers would snuff out the next three DeSales possessions. Gwynedd would then cash in on a Bulldog penalty with under a minute in the contest as Simpson notched his fifth of the season.
Myers would finish with seven stops while DSU keeper Matt Barry recorded eight.
Brandon Brown and
Nick Harkins each forced two caused turnovers while
Marc Bushong collected a game-high nine groundballs. The teams were even in shots at 31.
The Griffins return to action on Tuesday night when they welcome Wilkes in a 7 p.m. start.
