McCraw Nets 100th Career Goal, But Lycoming Holds Off Griffins

Becomes the second player in program history to reach 100 goals

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Tony McCraw scored three goals, including his 100th career tally, but it was Lycoming that escaped with a 6-5 win over the Griffins in Gwynedd Mercy's home opener on Saturday.

Tommy Belmont and Nick Guglielmi also scored for GMercyU (0-1), who outshot the Warriors, 39-25, on the day. McCraw moves into second place in the school's all-time goal list, sitting just one back of the lead and becomes just the second player in program history to reach the century mark.

After going nearly 14 minutes in the first quarter without a goal, Lycoming struck twice in the last 50 seconds of the period. Peter Pluta converted on a man-up goal after a Gwynedd penalty. The Warriors were able to win the ensuing faceoff and make it 2-0 with just 11 ticks on a score from Andrew Ream.

It became 3-0 Lycoming when Tim Breau tallied on a man-up score to open the second.

McCraw would get the Griffins on the board with his first on the season at the 12:09 mark. The Warriors tacked on two more and lead 5-1 before Guglielmi found the back of the net with just over five minutes before the half.

The four goals scored in the third quarter took place in the first five minutes with McCraw's two-straight scores, the last coming at the 10:34 mark, drew the Griffins within one.

Lycoming's Michael Tenant made 18 saves in goal and five stops in the fourth to keep the Griffins off the board. His two stops late in the quarter, including one with just 26 seconds left on a point-blank attempt from Blase Cesarone.

Griffin goalie Sean Myers would make nine saves on the afternoon.

Gwynedd Mercy returns to action on Wednesday, March 2nd when they head to Delaware Valley.
