Hyden Paces Men's Hoops Past Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA. -- Behind a career-high 30 points from senior Julian Hyden, Gwynedd Mercy won 95-80 at Summit in a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday evening.

Hyden went 10-of-16 from the floor, including a three-pointer, and go 9-for-14 at the line. His eight rebounds were also a team-high. Cedric Elleby chipped in 16 while Darnell Artis produced 12, giving GMercyU (16-6, 14-1 CSAC) the season sweep of Summit.

Abe Valentine scored 23 for the Defenders (3-19, 3-12 CSAC), who saw the Griffins end the first half on a 16-2 run, capped with a three-pointer from Brian Hennessey with seconds to go,  to lead 50-36 at the break.

After shooting over 50% in the first 20 minutes, Gwynedd went on a 45% pace in the second to help keep a double-digit lead throughout.

Gwynedd would outrebound Summit, 39-27, and score 23 points off of 15 Defender turnovers. Adam Brinkley grabbed a game-high nine boards for Summit.

The Griffins host Immaculata on Saturday on Senior Day here at 2 p.m. A victory can give GMercyU at least a first-round playoff bye and keep them in first place.
